On display at the next Auto Expo 2023 will be Kia's three-row Sorento SUV. The Hyundai Santa Fe is related to the Sorento, which is currently in its fourth generation and was globally launched in early 2020. Its position in the market is somewhere between the Telluride flagship SUV and the Kia Sportage (Tucson's counterpart).

Kia will likely display the vehicle to gauge consumer demand for the three-row SUV even though a launch has not yet been confirmed. However, this is not the SUV's first appearance in India; in fact, Kia previously debuted the third-generation Sorento at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Design

Despite having a familiar Kia family style, the fourth-generation Sorento sports a far more daring exterior than the brand's current portfolio of SUVs in India. The three-pod LED headlights and "tiger eyeliner" LED DRLs up front mix seamlessly with Kia's trademark tiger-nose grille.

On the other hand, the front bumper features a large central air inlet and a smooth, curved appearance. The Sorento features a conventional tall and upright SUV look from the side, which is emphasized by flared wheel arches. It has a finely contoured tailgate at the back as well as vertical LED taillamps.

The Sorento and the Sonet in India both have striking similarities in their interior designs. Along with vertical AC vents and a row of HVAC controls that are situated below, it has a 10.25-inch centralized infotainment screen that is raised.

A 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, similar to the Sonet, is housed in the instrument binnacle, which is connected to the infotainment screen. The center console is equipped with several switches, a rotating dial, a drive selector lever, and storage areas.

The Sorento has plenty of features, as expected from a Kia. Among the standout features are Kia's UVO-linked car technology, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, and 360-degree cameras.

It also receives ADAS capabilities with level-two autonomous driving technologies for international markets. The most important aspect of the Sorento SUV is that it has three rows and can seat up to seven people.

Powertrain options

There are numerous gasoline and diesel engine options available for the Sorento globally. A 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery powers the 1.6-liter turbo-petrol hybrid vehicle's 44.2kW (60 hp) electric motor, which is mated to a gasoline engine.

The hybrid powerplant, which produces 230 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, is connected to the front wheel via a 6-speed automated transmission. A non-hybrid 2.5-liter turbo-petrol engine with 191 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque is also available.

It has an 8-speed automatic mechanism and may be driven with either the front wheels or all four. A plug-in hybrid drivetrain is also available from Kia, combining a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a 13.68kWh battery to produce 261 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.

This just has a 6-speed automatic transmission and AWD, and it has an electric-only range of 57 km. Finally but just not, there is a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 202 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque that is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

Features (expected)

  • Auto emergency brake technology with junction turning detection
  • Blind spot detection technology
  • Lane keeping and following assist technology
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Parking collision-avoidance assist-reverse
  • Driver attention warning
  • Safe exit assist
  • High beam assist
  • Illuminated sun visor vanity mirrors
  • Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • Six-speaker audio system
  • Traction control system
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Dual airbags

Conclusion and Price

The Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq are just a couple of the vehicles the Kia Sorento would compete with if they were made available in India. Hyundai said that it won't be bringing back the Santa Fe, a car connected to the Sorento, any time soon.

Even though the price won't be known until the 2023 Auto Expo, it's still estimated to be in the range of 45 to 50 lakhs. Prices start at $31000 and go up to $52000 on the foreign market as well.
