BYD has officially unveiled the Atto 3 EVO, a comprehensive overhaul of the electric SUV that first introduced the Chinese automaker to European buyers in 2023. What started as a solid, dependable family SUV has now been transformed into a genuinely exciting proposition, with more power, a bigger battery, longer range, faster charging, and a cabin that punches well above its price point.
The original Atto 3 built a loyal following across Europe by offering comfort, technology, and everyday practicality in a well-packaged electric SUV. The EVO takes everything that worked and pushes it significantly further. This is not a minor facelift; it is a ground-up rethink of what a family electric SUV should deliver in 2026.
Design
On the outside, the Atto 3 EVO keeps the same overall dimensions as its predecessor, 4,455 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,615 mm tall, but wears a noticeably cleaner and more refined appearance. The front and rear bumpers have been restyled, the side profile is tidier with slimmer side skirts, and a sportier roof spoiler adds a touch of athleticism to the silhouette. New 18-inch alloy wheels complete the updated look.
The exterior changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, but that is by design. BYD has chosen to build on a shape that already resonated with buyers rather than reinvent it entirely. The result is a car that looks more polished and purposeful than the model it replaces, without abandoning the familiarity that made the original popular.
Inside, the cabin feels noticeably more open and airy. The biggest contributor to this is the relocation of the gear selector from the centre console to a steering column-mounted shifter, a simple change that frees up meaningful space between the front seats. High-quality materials are used throughout, ambient lighting adds atmosphere, and the overall feel is a step up from what buyers might expect at this price.
Performance
This is where the Atto 3 EVO makes its most dramatic leap forward. The front-wheel-drive setup of the original has been dropped entirely, replaced by a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, a significant shift that transforms the car's driving character.
The rear-wheel-drive Design variant is powered by a single permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 313 PS and 380 Nm of torque, delivering a 0 to 62 mph time of just 5.5 seconds. That figure alone outpaces most rivals in the electric family SUV segment. Its WLTP combined range stands at an impressive 317 miles on a single charge.
The all-wheel-drive Excellence variant goes further still, adding a front-mounted AC asynchronous motor to bring total output to 449 PS and 560 Nm of torque. The result is a 0 to 62 mph time of just 3.9 seconds, a figure more commonly associated with sports cars than seven-seat family haulers. Range on the Excellence sits at 292 miles WLTP combined.
Both variants share a 74.8 kWh Blade Battery using lithium iron phosphate chemistry, integrated into the chassis via BYD's Cell-to-Body technology. This approach strengthens the car's structure while simultaneously improving cabin space and lowering the centre of gravity. The rear suspension has also been upgraded from a four-link to a five-link configuration, promising sharper handling and a more composed ride.
Charging has taken a major step forward too. The 800-volt electrical architecture supports 220 kW DC fast charging, meaning both variants can top up from 10 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. AC charging is handled at up to 11 kW on a three-phase connection, with a full charge taking around eight hours.
Features
The Atto 3 EVO arrives with a feature list that would not look out of place on a car costing significantly more. At the heart of the cabin sits a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, the largest in its segment, running a system built around Google Maps, Google Play Store, and Google Assistant. An AI-powered voice assistant uses a cloud-based language model, allowing drivers to issue natural, conversational commands rather than memorising fixed phrases.
Standard across both variants is wireless smartphone charging with integrated active cooling, NFC access via phone or wearable, four USB-C ports, a 360-degree surround-view camera with front and rear parking sensors, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, an efficient heat pump, and electrically adjustable heated front seats.
V2L deserves a special mention. The system allows the Atto 3 EVO to power external devices at up to 3 kW , think portable grills, coffee machines, air compressors, or fairy lights, making it as useful parked up on a camping trip as it is on a daily commute.
The Excellence variant adds a head-up display, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade, rounding out a comprehensive package that raises the bar for what buyers can expect at this price point.
On the safety front, both variants come equipped with seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, intelligent cruise control, blind spot detection, front and rear cross traffic alert, lane departure assist, front and rear collision warning, traffic sign recognition, and intelligent speed limit control. The Cell-to-Body battery construction also contributes to improved crash performance by reinforcing the car's core structure.
Both models can tow up to 1,500 kg braked, a figure that exceeds most electric SUV rivals in this class.

Price and Availability
BYD has confirmed that first deliveries of the Atto 3 EVO will begin in spring 2026, though official pricing for individual markets has not yet been announced. Both variants, the rear-wheel-drive Design and the all-wheel-drive Excellence, are available in six exterior colours and two interior trim shades.
Every Atto 3 EVO comes with BYD's comprehensive warranty package: six years of manufacturer coverage for the vehicle, and eight years or 155,350 miles of battery protection. Crucially, BYD guarantees the battery will retain a minimum of 70 percent of its original capacity throughout that warranty period, a strong statement of confidence in the Blade Battery's long-term durability.
Conclusion
The BYD Atto 3 EVO is a significant step forward for a car that was already a credible choice in the electric family SUV segment. Better range, dramatically faster charging, a genuinely exciting performance option in the all-wheel-drive Excellence, and a cabin loaded with technology, all wrapped in a warranty package that is hard to match at any price.
What BYD has achieved with the Atto 3 EVO is to remove the compromises that buyers once had to accept. You no longer have to choose between range and performance, or between features and value. The EVO attempts to deliver all of it, and on paper at least, it comes remarkably close.
With first deliveries beginning this spring, the Atto 3 EVO looks set to raise the benchmark in the electric family SUV class, and put considerable pressure on rivals who have grown comfortable at this price point.
