Nepal's micro EV segment is about to get a serious new contender. Paramount Motors Pvt. Ltd., the authorized Wuling distributor in Nepal, has confirmed it will launch the latest-generation Wuling MINIEV at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026, scheduled for August 11 to 16 at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.

The timing is deliberate. The expo lands right before the festive season, when vehicle buying in Nepal peaks, and Paramount is entering with one of the most talked-about micro EVs in the world right now.

Design

Wuling describes the new exterior language as "sweet square," and that's not just marketing speak. The MINIEV keeps its boxy profile, because a box holds more than a wedge, but softens it with circular LED headlights, rounded mirrors, flush body-colored door handles, and aerodynamically shaped alloy wheels. Three new exterior colors are on offer, each finished with an eight-layer paint process. The car measures 3,268 mm in length, 1,520 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, with a 2,190 mm wheelbase. Compact by any standard, but slightly larger than the generation it replaces.

A Redesign That Actually Addresses Real Complaints

The previous MINIEV was a cultural phenomenon in China but drew fair criticism for cramped rear access and limited practicality. Wuling has clearly been listening. The fifth-generation model arrives as a four-door, four-seat layout, something no other vehicle in its segment currently offers. That alone changes the conversation around what a sub-compact EV can be.

The cabin proportions back that up with actual numbers. Front-to-rear seat spacing sits at 793 mm, rear headroom at 620 mm, and rear legroom at 454 mm. Those figures won't embarrass a car twice its size. The front seats can recline up to 164 degrees, which means the MINIEV can double as a nap spot when parked, a surprisingly useful feature for urban drivers who spend time waiting between trips.

Inside, Wuling has also swapped out the old center-mounted gear selector for a column-mounted unit, opening up the floor between the front seats for storage or extra legroom. That's a smart use of a tight space.

Storage and Cargo: Overdelivering for Its Size

Twenty storage compartments across the cabin, including cup holders, door pockets, phone holders, and utility hooks, signal that this car was designed by people who actually use small cars daily. The trunk, with rear seats up, sits at a standard volume. Fold those seats flat, and the cargo area expands to 838 litres, with a loading height of 755 mm that makes it genuinely easy to slot in larger items. For a vehicle this small, that's a serious number.

Interior and Technology

The dashboard centers around a 10.1-inch touchscreen with a redesigned interface. Remote vehicle functions including start, air conditioning control, and cabin pre-conditioning are accessible through a mobile app, which matters in Nepal's climate extremes.

Wuling has confirmed that Apple CarPlay, Huawei HiCar, and CarLink support will arrive through future over-the-air software updates. The infotainment system also includes four preset driving scenarios: Rest Mode, Camping Mode, Rain and Snow Mode, and Pet Mode. The Rain and Snow Mode, in particular, is worth noting given Nepal's varied terrain and seasonal conditions.

The seats themselves get a redesign too, featuring a brown-and-white patterned dual-tone scheme with thicker cushioning and improved ergonomic shaping. It's a noticeable upgrade from the spartan approach of earlier generations.

Performance and Range

Power comes from an updated electric drivetrain paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The claimed driving range on a full charge is 301 km, based on Chinese CLTC test standards. Real-world figures in Kathmandu's stop-and-go traffic will likely land differently, but for a city-focused micro EV, the headline number is competitive. The LFP chemistry also brings durability advantages over NMC batteries, with better resistance to degradation over repeated charge cycles.

Safety Specification

The body uses a reinforced high-strength steel structure. Safety equipment includes dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Control, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Traction Control System, Hill Hold Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and automatic hazard warning lights. For a vehicle likely to be priced under Rs 2 million in Nepal, that is a substantial active and passive safety package.

Price and What to Expect at the Expo

Paramount Motors has not announced pricing yet. That reveal is expected at the official launch during the NAIMA expo in August. Based on the car's positioning in other markets, Nepal pricing is widely anticipated to come in below the Rs 2 million mark, which would make it one of the most affordable four-door EVs on sale here.

The MINIEV won't be the only Wuling product at the expo. Paramount is also planning to introduce the Wuling Bingo EV, the Deryan MPV, and the Xingchi EV SUV at the same event, making August a significant moment for the brand's Nepal expansion.

Whether the MINIEV actually reshapes Nepal's budget EV conversation depends on what Paramount prices it at. Get that right, and this car has the specs, the practicality, and the novelty factor to make serious noise. Set it even slightly too high, and it risks losing the one thing that defines its category: genuine affordability.

The expo is six weeks away. The number is the only thing left to see.
