Five Things You Should Know About The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Introduction

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a classic and popular motorcycle that was first introduced in 2018. It is known for its retro-style design and vintage looks and is equipped with various features and accessories. It is a popular choice for those who are looking for a motorcycle that combines a classic aesthetic with modern performance.

With that said, let’s talk about the five things one should know about the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.

1.     Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: Engine and Performance

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 shares its engine with the Continental GT 650 and the Super Meteor 650. All three bikes are powered by the same 648 cc 4-stroke, air/oil-cooled, parallel twin engine. In terms of output, Interceptor 650 produces 47 bhp of maximum power at 7150 rpm and 52 Nm of maximum torque at 5250 rpm. While these figures may not be particularly impressive, the engine still provides good performance without being menacing.

The engine of the Interceptor 650 is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper and assist clutch. The clutch action is smooth and easy to use, with no clunkiness. The bike also has a fuel tank that can hold 13.7 liters of fuel, providing a range of approximately 402 kilometers in mixed riding conditions.

2.     Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: Vintage Design and Looks

The design of the Interceptor 650 is inspired by classic 1960s motorcycles, with features such as a polished alloy finish, a circular headlight, touring mirrors, black rims, and bright, funky colors for the fuel tank. The bike has a high-quality finish and a retro-style appearance, with a wide handlebar and a low seat height. Overall, the bike has a well-built, classic look.

3.     Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: Firmer Suspension and ABS Braking

The suspension of the Interceptor 650 consists of a front telescopic fork and rear twin coil-over shock absorbers. However, these components may not provide as much stability and firmness as the suspension on the Royal Enfield Classic 350, leading to a bouncier ride on rough or winding roads.

For safety, this bike incorporates dual disc brakes alongside a dual-channel ABS braking system. However, this bike doesn’t get features like traction control, rider and engine power mode, and cruise control.

4.     Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: lots of accessories and equipment

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 comes with an accessory touring seat that provides additional comfort for both commuting and long-distance rides. The bike is also equipped with full LED lighting, spoke wheels, a single metal exhaust, an iconic exhaust note, and an analog instrument cluster.

5.     Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: Variants, Price, and Competition

The 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is available in seven color options: Mark Two, Sunset Strip, Baker Express, Downtown Drag, Ventura Blue, Canyon Red, and Orange Crush. The price for this bike ranges from INR 2,88,000 to INR 3,31,000 in India, making it a relatively affordable option in its segment.

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 doesn't have many direct rivals in the retro motorcycle class, particularly in the 650 cc segment. The Continental GT 650 and Super Meteor 650 are both produced by Royal Enfield, while other retro-style bikes either have much larger engines and are more expensive or have much smaller engines. As a result, the Interceptor 650 doesn’t have many close competitors in its class.
