TATA NEXON CROWNED KING OF COMPACT SUVs IN FEBRUARY 2026

Tata Motors dominates India's most competitive auto segment with a stunning one-two finish; Nexon edges out stablemate Punch as Maruti Suzuki and Korean rivals trail behind.

The Indian compact SUV market witnessed another fierce battle in February 2026, with Tata Motors emerging as the undisputed champion. The Tata Nexon led all rivals with an impressive 19,430 units sold, retaining its crown in a segment that now accounts for one of the largest volumes in the country's passenger vehicle landscape.

Tata Dominates With a One-Two Punch

The biggest story of the month was not just one Tata win, it was two. The Tata Punch, the brand's sub-compact crossover, came in a close second with 18,748 units, just 682 units behind its stablemate. Together, the two Tata models accounted for over 38,000 units ,  nearly 39% of the total segment volume,a remarkable show of strength from the homegrown automaker.

Maruti Suzuki Fights Back

Maruti Suzuki put up a strong fight with two entries of its own. The Brezza secured third place with 17,863 units, remaining a formidable rival to the Nexon. The Fronx, Maruti's newer coupe-SUV entrant, followed in fourth with 13,898 units, underlining the brand's continued relevance in the space.

Korean Rivals Trail Behind

Hyundai's Venue recorded 10,494 units in fifth place, while the Kia Sonet came sixth with 9,750 units. Both Korean offerings, though popular, found themselves unable to match the pace set by the top four. Mahindra's XUV 3XO rounded out the top seven with 8,637 units ,  a respectable figure for the newer entrant as it continues to build its foothold.
