According to the latest news, Royal Enfield is going to launch its electric bike soon. However, the company has not officially commented on the matter.

In August 2020, Binod Dasari, CEO of Royal Enfield, confirmed that the company plans to enter the electric bike segment. Following the announcement, the bike maker confirmed in its annual report 2020-21 that the company was developing electric bikes.

Royal Enfield had confirmed last year that it has been working on the production of electric machines. Moreover, the British automaker had also said that the new electric machines coming from the RE family will be designed and developed at its UK R&D-based center.

As for the automaker, it also added that the preparations on the technology and consumer front have already started. However, when talking to Siddhartha Lal, Eicher Motors Managing Director, he revealed that the company has no plans on launching the electric bike any time soon.

Why is Royal Enfield not in a hurry to develop an electric motorcycle?

Firstly, although Electric bikes are slowly taking their pace in the market, it isn’t getting the proper attention as of the electric car market. Currently, the market share of electric bikes in the domestic market is very low, keeping in mind the sales of fuel-based ones.

On the other hand, Royal Enfield is focusing more on the long-term perspective as it has carried a long legacy of producing classic sturdy machines. And the bike maker plans the same for its electric machines as well.
