Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 for premium mid-range Android smartphones

Along with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm also announced its Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC for premium mid-range Android smartphones. So, let’s go through the specifications and ability of this new 5G chipset from Qualcomm.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Overview

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is built using Samsung’s 4nm process. This octa-core Kryo CPU features one Cortex-A710 Prime core clocked at 2.4GHz, three Cortex-A710 Performance cores clocked at 2.36GHz, and four Cortex-A510 Efficiency cores clocked at 1.8Ghz.

The CPU is paired with Qualcomm Adreno GPU, which is claimed to deliver over 20% faster graphics rendering and ultra-low-latency HDR gaming than its predecessor.

Qualcomm has also added the 7th Gen AI engine on the SD 7 Gen1. Compared to the 6th Gen AI engine, It offers around 30% better AI performance.

The other addition to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is the triple 14-bit image signal processor (ISP), which enables simultaneous triple capture. It supports up to 200MP image capture and 4K HDR video recording. Similarly, the chip supports up to QHD+ display with 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ display with 144Hz refresh rate.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 supports LPDDR5 RAM with a frequency of up to 3200MHz and a density of up to 16GB. It is the first Snapdragon 7-series chip to come with Android Ready SE and Trusted Management Engine, which is claimed to provide optimal security for digital keys, IDs, mobile wallets, and more.

For connectivity, the chipset comes with Snapdragon X65 5G Modem with support for up to 4.4Gbps downlink. There's also a Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System that brings wireless connectivity with up to 3.6Gbps speeds over Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E standards. The chipset further supports Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity that includes Qualcomm’s latest aptX and Snapdragon sound support.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Availability

Smartphones with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset are expected to arrive as soon as Q2 2022 (this quarter). According to the company, OEMs like Honor, OPPO, and Xiaomi will soon bring the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 powered smartphones.
