State-owned telecom operator, Nepal Telecom (NTC) is planning to bring an eSIM card service in the upcoming fiscal year 2078/2079. The telecom company is planning to bring and distribute around 8 million eSIM cards within the 12 months of the next fiscal year. It is reported the company has already issued a tender for 7.5 million eSIMs, and the remaining eSIMs will come depending upon the requirement.
NTC bringing eSIM doesn’t mean everyone will get to use it. To use the eSIM, the device of the user should be compatible with the eSIM. Most of the flagship smartphones are compatible with e-SIM, but smartphone makers tend to alter some features of their smartphones based on market region.

What is eSIM?
Embedded-SIM (eSIM) or Embedded Universal Circuit Card (eUICC) is a digital SIM that is embedded into the smartphone. It allows you to activate a cellular plan from your carrier without having to use a physical nano-SIM that we are used to. eSIM makes it easier to switch from one network operator to another and also switch among them temporarily. Being embedded inside the phone, eSIM is likely to not get physical damage and loss. However, eSIM does make it hard while switching smartphones.
