Ever since the internet became one of the key needs in the day-to-day life of the Nepalese people, the Nepal government has been actively working to provide free internet service all over the country. According to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, around 15,393 different places across the country have been provided with free internet connections.
Utilizing the funds from the Rural Telecommunication Fund, the authority has provided free internet connection to offices of 679 local bodies, 5,664 ward offices, 4,027 health institutions, and 5,023 secondary schools all around the country.
These offices get to use the internet for free for two years. After that, the fee has to be paid to the concerned service provider.

If you wonder where the funds come from, there’s a provision in the Rural Telecommunication Fund that a telecommunication service provider company has to deposit 2 percent of its annual income. Using the same amount, NTA has launched this project to provide a free internet connection to government and public bodies across the country. Under this project, 589 more places will get a free internet connection.
Note: this is the figure till the month of Mangsir 2078.
