Chinese Smartphone Market in January 2022
Apple’s iPhone 13 was the best-selling smartphone model in China in January 2022. According to the reports of CINNO Research, Apple managed to ship a total of 2.3 million iPhone 13 units during the period. This marks the fourth straight month where the vanilla iPhone 13 topped the individual sales chart in China. The streak started back in October 2021, and before that, no iPhones had topped the chart in six years in China.
Even with the impressive performance from iPhone 13, Apple smartphone sales still fell by 1.8% month-on-month, and it also wasn’t the top-selling brand in China in January 2022 either. The top performer in the Chinese market was Oppo with an estimated sales of 5.4 million units. Its domestic smartphone sales saw a growth of 42.6% but declined by 21.1% compared to January 2021. The Reno 7 5G (Chinese Version) and Oppo A56 5G were the two best-performing smartphones for Vivo during the month.

Vivo and Honor ranked second and third with an estimated 5.2 million units in sales. Vivo saw a growth of 55.8% month-on-month and a year-on-year decrease of 13.3% in January. Vivo S12 was the main sales model for Vivo. Honor, on the other hand, continued to perform strongly, with sales slightly lower than Vivo. The newly independent brand saw a year-on-year increase of 242.9% and a month-on-month increase of 54.4%.
Xiaomi rounded up the top 5, behind Apple, with an estimated 4.4 million units sold in January. Its sales were down 12.7% year-on-year and up 54.7% month-on-month. Reports suggest that the latest Xiaomi 12 series has not brought significant sales contribution as of yet.
