Honor has launched a new smartphone called the Magic V, which comes as the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC-powered folding phone. The device further features three 50MP rear cameras, 66W fast charging, OLED display, and more. Honor Magic V Overview

Design

This foldable smartphone from Honor comes with a hinge made out of aerospace-grade materials. It folds in a water drop shape, which makes the crease quite invisible. Also, the company claims that the hinge can survive 10 years of usage if folded and unfolded 50 times a day.

Honor Magic V is the slimmest foldable smartphone in the world as it measures 14.3mm when folded and 6.7mm when unfolded. It comes in three color options of Titanium Empty Silver, Burning Orange, and Bright Black.

Display

While folded, the Honor Magic V features a 6.45-inch external display with a 21:9 aspect ratio that makes the device feels like any other smartphone. This OLED panel here supports a 120Hz refresh rate and has a peak brightness of 1000nits.

The main inner foldable display is a 7.9-inch OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. This foldable OLED uses a new generation of magnetron nano-optical film. Further, the reflectivity of the display is said to be less than 1.5%.

Both the external and internal displays here support HDR10+, 1.07 billion color, DCI-P3 wide color gamut, and 1920Hz high-frequency PWM eye protection.

Performance

Honor Magic V is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. It comes with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB onboard storage. The device here runs on the Android 12 based Magic UI 6.0.

For optics, there is a triple rear camera setup. It consists of a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide with 120-degree FoV, and a 50MP spectrally enhanced sensor. The Spectral enhancement lens here helps capture detailed images even in foggy conditions.

There are two 42MP selfie cameras housed in punch hole cutouts on both the external and internal displays.

Honor Magic V packs a 4750mAh battery that comes in a dual battery layout to balance charging and heat dissipation. The 66W fast charging here is said to fill up to 50% in just 15 minutes. There’s also a dual speaker setup with IMAX ENHANCED certification for immersive video and audio experience.

Connectivity options on the Magic V include 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Instead of an in-display fingerprint scanner, here you’ll see a side-mounted scanner for biometrics.

Honor Magic V Price and Availability

Honor Magic V price in China starts at CNY 9,999 for the base 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model, where the first sale is scheduled for January 18. There’s no information regarding its availability outside of China. If the smartphone launches here in Nepal, we expect the price to be around Rs.1,95,000.
