GoPro Hero 5 Session: Long Term Review Nepal

Introduction

Go Pro is one of the topmost brand producing Action camera since 2002 AD. The company also sell drones and many other accessories. Among all, I own Hero5 Session. It is a professional level action camera which is not only handy but is also powerful with capturing memories. It's been 3 years since I have been using GoPro HERO5 Session capturing memories doing cycling.

I have also been doing video blogging since then. Here's the link to my YouTube channel. All those videos were captured by GoPro Hero5 Session. It feels handy and can fit in my pocket well. With many Nepali Vloggers using GoPro, I would like to review my camera.

Build & Design

Featuring a rugged miniature design, the GoPro Hero5 Session features superb waterproofing as the Hero5 Black version. After all, its predecessor was the first and previously the only GoPro action cam to come with protection against water damage without a need for a housing accessory. We are able to use the GoPro action camera at a depth of up to 10 metres underwater. Sadly though, it lacks the 2-inch touchscreen available on the Black model.

Features

GoPro Hero5 Session has a good design with a dual microphone that can capture audio from all around. Also, the lens of 122- degree field of view captures a wide view. Flat and Curved Adhesive Mounts makes possible to attach the camera with anything with a mount. Hero5 Session has two buttons. The main button on top which initiates the recording of video and on second click the video stops recording. Another button on the back helps us to control the setting of GoPro. The camera has a micro-SD card for storing data which uses the USB-C port for charging.

GoPro Apps

I use GoPro Official app to transfer GoPro Captured photos/videos to my mobile device. GoPro app supports both Android and IOS devices. GoPro app is used to change the setting of the camera as doing manually is kind of stressful. This app also connects to your camera and file transfer is possible. And for further editing, I use Quik Apps. Quik app has some non-copyright music which is cool with the editing of the videos.

The Goods

• Has a great microphone. So there is no need for external microphone speaker for video recording

The Bads

• While buying HERO5 Session charging adapter is not provided.
• Heating problem while transferring files through GoPro WiFi.
• Battery lasts only 2hrs on the 4k recording.
• Has inbuilt Battery. So taking external batteries is useless.
• Doesn't have a touchscreen to control the settings. Change of setting should be done manually or connecting with a smartphone app called 'GoPro'.
• Price seems costly.

GoPro HERO5 Session is the smallest among all GoPro Family with some seriously cool features. So the competitors for this action camera are GoPro Hero5 Black, GoPro Hero6, TomTom Bandit, and Y1 4K Action Cameras.
