The MG Hector Has Arrived in Nepal, and It's Bringing a Fight to the Mid-Size SUV Market

G.O. Automobiles didn't just bring another SUV to Nepal, they brought a statement. Officially launched on May 21, 2026, at the MG showroom in Thapathali, Kathmandu, the all-new MG Hector arrives with a price tag starting at Rs 66.99 lakh and climbing to Rs 80.99 lakh, positioning itself as a serious contender in Nepal's premium SUV space.

The timing matters. Coming hot on the heels of the MG Windsor and MG Comet launches, G.O. Automobiles is clearly in expansion mode, pushing MG's footprint across multiple segments of the Nepali market simultaneously. Whether that aggressive rollout translates into sustained buyer confidence remains to be seen, but with Hector's spec sheet, they're certainly making a case.

Design

The new Hector doesn't ask for attention. It commands it. The signature Aura Hex Grille dominates the front fascia with a geometric, honeycomb-inspired pattern that gives the SUV a presence far beyond its price bracket. Flanking it are projector LED headlamps with sharp LED DRLs and floating light turn indicators, details you'd expect on vehicles costing significantly more.

Around back, connected LED tail lamps span the width of the tailgate, a design choice that's become a hallmark of modern luxury SUVs. The automatic powered tailgate is a thoughtful touch that buyers in this segment have come to expect. Chrome inserts on the window beltline, front and rear skid plates, and chrome-finished door handles add layers of visual richness without tipping into excess. The Aura Bolt alloy wheels, 17-inch on the base variant and 18-inch on higher trims, complete a silhouette that looks genuinely expensive.

Five colour options are available: Celadon Blue and Pearl White as new additions, alongside the returning Glaze Red, Starry Black, and Aurora Silver.

Interior

Step inside and Hector's cabin makes a strong first impression. The centrepiece is a massive 35.56 cm (14-inch) HD portrait-orientation infotainment screen, the largest in its segment among petrol and diesel SUVs. It's paired with a fully digital instrument cluster featuring a 17.78 cm multi-information display.

Perhaps the most talked-about feature is the segment-first i-SWIPE touch gesture control. A two-finger swipe adjusts AC temperature or fan speed; three fingers control volume or change music tracks. It sounds gimmicky until you're driving and realise how little you need to take your eyes off the road. That kind of thoughtful engineering is what separates genuinely good cabins from ones that merely look good in brochures.

The eight-colour ambient mood lighting system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and Hydra Gloss finish accents on the centre console collectively create an atmosphere that punches well above Hector's price point. Seat upholstery on upper variants is leatherette, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel adds a premium tactility to every drive. Dual-tone interior themes, Urban Tan and Ice Grey, are available on selected models. Front ventilated seats, a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and 60:40 split second-row seats round off a cabin that's genuinely practical for everyday family use.

Performance

Under the hood, the Hector carries a 1.5-litre turbocharged intercooled petrol engine displacing 1,451cc. It produces 143 PS at 5,200 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm, figures that are adequate for Nepal's mixed road conditions. The engine is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT, and the 60-litre fuel tank ensures you're not hunting for petrol stations on longer mountain runs.

Dimension-wise, the Hector measures 4,699 mm in length, 1,835 mm wide, and 1,760 mm tall, sitting on a 2,750 mm wheelbase. That wheelbase is the key figure, it's what gives rear passengers the kind of legroom that makes long journeys genuinely comfortable rather than merely tolerable. Suspension is handled by a McPherson strut with coil springs up front and a beam assembly with coil spring at the rear. All four wheels get disc brakes.

Conclusion

The MG Hector is a serious SUV for Nepali buyers who want genuine technology, generous space, and a design that stands out without crossing into territory that feels financially reckless. At Rs 66.99 lakh entry, it competes directly with established names that offer less technology for comparable money.

What G.O. Automobiles need to prove now that after-sales support and parts availability in Nepal can match the promise of the product. A 14-inch touchscreen is impressive; a 14-inch touchscreen with nowhere to service it is a liability. If the network holds up, the Hector could genuinely reshape what Nepali buyers expect from a mid-size SUV. If it doesn't,  well, buyers have long memories.
