Nepal's electric vehicle market has mostly been a story of compact cars and two-wheelers. Mahindra is about to change the conversation. The XEV 9S, the Indian automaker's new all-electric seven-seat SUV, is heading to Nepal and its first public appearance will be at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026, opening August 11 at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.

Agni Incorporated Pvt. Ltd., the authorized distributor of Mahindra vehicles in Nepal, is planning to launch the XEV 9S during the exhibition. The XEV 9S is not the only vehicle making waves at this year's show. Pricing for the XEV 9S in Nepal has not been announced yet, but the arrival of a seven-seat electric SUV from a mainstream brand at a major public expo signals that this is not a distant plan. It is happening now.

Design

What separates the XEV 9S from its platform sibling, the coupe-styled XEV 9e, is deliberate and important. Mahindra chose a traditional upright SUV silhouette here, prioritizing interior space and passenger comfort over a sporty roofline that would compromise rear headroom and third-row access.

The front end gets a full-width LED light bar, a closed-off grille and a muscular bumper. It looks purposeful without being theatrical. The wheelbase stretches to 2,762 mm, which is generous and directly translates into cabin space that makes the seven-seat layout credible rather than a marketing footnote. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels complete the exterior.

Features

Step inside and the XEV 9S makes a clear case for the premium segment. The dashboard runs a triple-screen layout, the kind of cockpit setup that was flagship territory not long ago and is now becoming the expected baseline for serious electric SUVs. A panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, a head-up display and an air purifier are all on board.

The audio system is a 16-speaker Harman unit with Dolby Atmos, which is a specification you would normally find in vehicles costing considerably more. Mahindra has also fitted Level 2 ADAS, giving the XEV 9S active safety assistance features including lane keeping and adaptive cruise functions. The driver's seat gets a memory function, a detail that speaks to the XEV 9S's intent as a family hauler where multiple drivers share the same vehicle.

The second row is where Mahindra has put real thought into the ownership experience. Those seats offer ventilation, slide and recline functions, sun blinds, tray tables, wireless charging and dedicated entertainment screens. For a family using this as a school run and weekend trip machine, that second row will matter more than any spec sheet number. The third row is realistically suited to children or short hops, which is honest for this vehicle class.

Performance

The XEV 9S is offered in India with three battery options: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. Mahindra has not yet confirmed which variant or variants will come to Nepal. The top-spec 79 kWh version runs a rear-wheel-drive layout with an electric motor producing 281 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Those are strong numbers for a seven-seat family SUV and put it in genuine performance territory rather than just utilitarian electric transport.

Which battery option Agni Incorporated chooses to bring will define how the XEV 9S is received in Nepal. The 79 kWh version would offer the most range and the strongest performance case, but pricing will ultimately determine which variant makes commercial sense for the Nepali market.
