SUV and Electric car sales has been increased by 74% worldwide | Situation of Global Car Market?

Sales of sedan cars in the global market has been declining at a rapid pace nowadays while in the South Asian market too, the sales have been following the same trail. Likewise, the recent reports of car sales on the Nepali market also suggest minimal sales of sedan cars.

However, in the year 2018, a total of around 86 million units cars, jeep and vans were sold on the global market. While among this, the Toyota Corolla was the best-selling model in the global market with total sales of 3 million units alone. In the Nepali market, the Corolla was once used as a Taxi or passenger car too. However, analyzing the recent car market, the demand for the Corolla sedan is almost zero within a short timeline.

SUVs account for 36% of the world’s total car sales while 29% of the car market share has been occupied by hatchbacks. Similarly, sedan accounts for 17% of total market share while MPV and Jeeps account for 7.3% and 6.4% of total market share respectively.

SUV Global Sales Record (2018)

SUVs accounted for 36% of market share on the passenger car segment in the year 2018 which had been increased by 7% compared to the year 2017.

A total of 2,90,77,000 units of SUVs were sold globally in the year 2018. While among them, compact SUVs had the highest number of sales with a total sale of 1,20,30,000 units. Similarly, 70,20,000 units of mid-sized SUVs and 60,60,000 units of small SUVs were sold in the respective year. In the same way, Premium SUVs had total sales of 30,70,000 units.

74% Increment in Electric car’s sale

Sales of electric cars had been increased by 74% last year. It is now hard to estimate the global sales of electric cars as China itself accounts for 30% of the world’s total electric cars. Last year, 2,80,00,000 units of cars were sold in China among which 7,69,000 units were electric cars only. This reflects the bulk consumption of electric cars in China along with their inducement for EVs and eco-friendliness.

Similarly, in the year 2018, a total of 1.26 million units of electric cars were sold around the globe. Among the total units, 7,69,000 units were sold in China, 2,09,000 units were sold in the USA, 46,000 units on Norway, 35,000 units on Germany while 31,000 units were sold in France. In addition, the remaining units of EVs were sold around the rest of the part of the globe.
