5 Upcoming Electric Cars in Nepal 2021 | Overview

With the start of the new Year 2078, various car brands were waiting on the line-up to unveil various new electric cars in Nepal. However, due to the sudden lockdown in the country due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, some brands couldn’t launch them on time.  

However, these new electric car models are all set up to launch in Nepal once the lockdown comes to an end. Here, we have discussed 5 electric cars that will be launching in Nepal this year after the lockdown.

Nissan Leaf 

After an elongated wait, Nissan is finally launching its popular electric car, Leaf in the Nepali market. Pioneer Motocorp, the sole distributor for Nissan vehicles in Nepal is possibly launching the Nissan Leaf in the month of June. The car had been waiting to launch in Nepal since last year.  

The launch of the electric vehicle could not take place on time after the existing tax on electric vehicles was increased. But after the Nepal government made arrangements to review the tax for electric vehicles, the firm planned to launch the vehicle. 

The Nissan Leaf gets a 160kW electric motor which generates a power of 214bhp. According to the company, the Nissan Leaf provides a range of 363km on a single full charge. There are 3 different modes for battery saving available in the car. 

The base variant of Nissan Leaf costs $38,220 in the US market.  

 

Tata Nexon EV 

Tata Nepal is soon releasing the electric version of its popular SUV, Nexon in the Nepali market. The Nexon is already being sold in the Indian market at a price tag of INR 14 lakhs (starting). 

Tata has infused the Nexon EV with tons of excellent features. The electric SUV is packed with tons of premium features such as connected car features, sunroof, LED daytime running lights, projector headlamp, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, rain-sensing wiper, Herman’s 8 speakers, and more.  

TATA Nexon EV gets a 30.2kWh battery unit while it has a peak power output of 127bhp alongside a peak torque of 245nm. It provides a peak range of 312km on a single full charge while only takes 4.6 seconds to accelerate from 0-60km/hr.

GWM ORA R1 

One of the world’s most affordable electric cars- ORA R1 from Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors is launching here in Nepal too. The electric car was also unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 India last year.  

As various Nepali automobile entrepreneurs had also participated in the Expo, the car had been also able to allure the focus of Nepali businessmen. These businessmen had visited the Auto Expo as a delegation of NADA. 

The ORA R1 is a city car presented and produced by Great Wall Motors under the electric vehicle sub-brand, ORA since 2019. According to the firm, ORA stands for ‘open, reliable and alternative’

More on, speaking of the ORA R1, the electric car is powered by a 28.5kWh lithium-ion battery along with a 35kW permanent magnet motor which delivers a power of 47bhp. Great Wall Motors claim it to provide a range of 301km on a full charge.  

Coming on to the insides, the ORA R1 features a 9.0-inches touchscreen infotainment system. Other features include connected car technology, tire-pressure monitoring system, reverse parking sensor, and cameras.

The ORA R1 electric car is based on the company’s ME Pure Electric Platform. The ORA R1 is priced between 59,800-77,800 yuan in the Chinese market. It also stood as the world’s cheapest electric car as of 2019.  

 

Mahindra eKUV 100 

Launching this year in the Nepali market, the upcoming electric car, Mahindra eKUV 100 is expected to be the cheapest electric car produced by a top brand. In the past, not any top automakers had launched an electric car in the market at an affordable range while the upcoming eKUV 100 might cut the line. 

The EV has also not been launched in the Indian market due to the current situation of Covid-19 in the country. However, the firm might launch it in both the Indian as well as Nepali markets this year.

The Mahindra eKUV 100 is the electrified version of the firm’s popular car, KUV 100. The eKUV 100 is expected to boast a 15.8kWh motor delivering a peak power of 54bhp alongside a torque of 120Nm. More on, the eKUV-100 provides a range of 140km on a full charge as claimed by the firm. 

It is expected to hold a price tag of around INR 8.25 lakhs in the Indian market.

Peugeot e-2008  

The Peugeot e-2008 is the electrified version of the French automaker’s popular SUV, the Peugeot 2008. The Peugeot 2008 (fuel-based model) is already available in the Nepali market. (For details: Click Here).  

The upcoming e-2008 is the electric version of this model. The Peugeot e-2008 adopts a 50kWh battery which provides a range of 310km on a full charge. The SUV has a maximum power output of 138bhp alongside a peak torque of 260Nm. It can accelerate at a speed of 0-100km/h within just 8.7seconds.  

Its pricing starts from £30,730 in the European market.
