After six years of the Japanese carmaker, Nissan making Datsun its new name for emerging markets in India, Indonesia, and South Africa, now the firm is planning on pulling out the Datsun brand by 2022. India was the first market where Nissan had first launched its Datsun brand.
The firm had first made the debut by launching the Go hatchback in India followed by the three-row Go+ and the Redigo. However, the firm had to face quite an uneven sale since then while around the other International markets too, the Brand followed the same trail. Only after a few months of the launch of its GO model, it had to face a great loss on the global sales which not only hampered the model but the image of the Datsun brand too.
Again, after that Nissan had quite a great expectation from its Redigo model but unfortunately, their plan didn’t work up to its expectation. This was mainly because the Redigo model had to directly rival against the hugely successful Renault Kwid which, in fact, outnumbered the sales of Redigo by three times.
In the three-month period, from April to June 2019, Nissan's net income was down 94.5 percent year-on-year, with sales down in several key markets. In May this year, Nissan reported net annual profits of 319 billion yen (about Rs 20,000 crore), down 5 percent on the previous year. This was the lowest figure since 2009-2010. Well, after facing serial setbacks on the sales, the firm has now finally planned to pull off the Nissan Brand from it by the year 2022. More on, the firm is also planning on re-launching its Redigo model next year with a BS6-compliant engine.
Nissan is now aiming to focus more on the US and China markets and might officially reveal the expansive global growth plan later this month.
