Huawei picks TomTom for Google Maps alternative

After the US ban over the Chinese tech giant Huawei, the smartphone maker had to look for various alternatives for both its software and hardware. Among the variety of impacts that the US trade ban had on Huawei, the inability of Huawei to use Google applications had a severe effect on the firm.

As Google Maps are considered one of the top services of the firm, it was kind of a tough job for the Chinese tech giant to work on its alternative. However, now that’s no more a problem for Huawei as it has recently partnered with TomTom for working on navigations. Now on, TomTom will be providing maps, live traffic information, and software for Huawei devices.

As TomTom works are based in the Netherlands, it won’t have any effect on the US trade ban in its accessibility. During the trade ban by the US government in August, Huawei had later informed that it had been working on building its own navigation app called Map Kit that would support all the real-time traffic reports.

More on, TomTom spokesman explained that the firm had already signed an agreement with Huawei in the past, however, both of the companies had made it a secret agreement. Huawei choosing the Dutch TomTom as its navigation partner is, in fact, an excellent choice by the Chinese tech giant for satellite navigation.
