Apple has recently halted all sales of its products from its official website in Russia. All product sales were paused in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The news comes after the Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov wrote a letter to Apple, urging the American tech giant to stop all its services in Russia.

I appeal to you and I am sure you will not only hear, but also do everything possible to protect Ukraine, Europe, and finally, the entire democratic world from bloody authoritarian aggression - to stop supplying Apple services and products to the Russian Federation, including blocking access to App Store! We are sure that such actions will motivate the youth and the active population of Russia to proactively stop the disgraceful military aggression.” - Mykhailo Fedorov

In response, Apple has now paused the sales of products like iPhones, Macs, and more in the region. Even Apple Pay has been limited and major banks in Russia are not being able to use the services. The company has also removed Russian news apps like RT News and Sputnik News from the App Store‌ outside of Russia. Furthermore, Apple has stated that it has disabled traffic patterns and live incident reports in Apple Maps in Ukraine to deter the tracking of Ukrainians’ movements.

We are deeply concerned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and stand with all of the people who are suffering as a result of the violence. We are supporting humanitarian efforts, providing aid for the unfolding refugee crisis, and doing all we can to support our teams in the region.

We have taken a number of actions in response to the invasion. We have paused all product sales in Russia. Last week, we stopped all exports into our sales channel in the country. Apple Pay and other services have been limited. RT News and Sputnik News are no longer available for download from the App Store outside Russia. And we have disabled both traffic and live incidents in Apple Maps in Ukraine as a safety and precautionary measure for Ukrainian citizens. We will continue to evaluate the situation and are in communication with the relevant governments on the actions we are taking. We join all those around the world who are calling for peace.” - Apple CEO, Tim Cook

Apple is the latest tech company to take a stand against the invasion of Ukraine. Google has already blocked the YouTube channels of RT News and Sputnik in Europe. The company is also blocking edits to Google Map in the conflict Zone and is delisting Russian state-funded publishers in Google News. Microsoft on the other hand has removed Russian News apps from its global Microsoft app store and has stated that they will ban Russian state-sponsored ads.
