Mahindra and Mahindra, a well-known automaker based in India, is set to introduce an updated and more extensive version of its popular SUV, the Mahindra Thar. The exterior of the vehicle has been captured in several spy photos that have been widely spread online. Recently, the much-anticipated 5-door model of Thar was caught testing once again, and for the first time, the images give a glimpse of the SUV’s interior.

The 5-door version of the Thar will have a ladder frame chassis like the Scorpio N, making it over 4 meters in length. The design will have some minor changes from the 3-door Thar. The front section, as seen in the spy shots, houses a square-shaped grille instead of the vertical slats seen in the 3-door Thar. In addition, it features round-shaped fog lamps, instead of rectangular ones.
With a long wheelbase, the body of the 5-door Thar is expected to have a boxy profile. The rear door will be slightly smaller than the front doors due to the wheel arch cutouts. Furthermore, the spare tire will be mounted on the tailgate.

Interior and Features

In the latest leaked spy shots of the 5-door Thar, we can see that it will be fitted with an upgraded infotainment system with a touchscreen display. The higher-end models are likely to come with a front armrest. The cabin photos also show that the 5-door Thar will likely be available in both rear-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive options, as the test vehicle did not have a 4x4 gear lever. However, since the test vehicle did not have rear seats, it is uncertain what the layout of the interior will be like.

Engine and Performance

The 5-door Thar is expected to share its engine with the 3-door Thar, Scorpio N, and XUV700. However, since the upcoming 5-door Thar will be over 4 meters in length and won't receive tax rebates, Mahindra may opt to not include the 1.5-liter diesel engine. Hence, it is likely to get 2.2-liter diesel and 2-liter turbo petrol engines. Likewise, it will get both manual and automatic transmissions.
In the 3-door model, the power outputs are 130 PS from the diesel engine and 150 PS from the petrol engine. Both powertrains have 300 Nm of maximum torque. But, these figures could be different for the longer, heavier 5-door version.

Price, Launch date, and Competition
The company hasn’t provided any information regarding its launch date and price. However, it is likely to debut in the first half of next year.
