Canalys has released its reports on the global smartphone market. According to the reports, global smartphone shipments increased by 12% in the second quarter of 2021. Similarly, Xiaomi managed to become the world’s second-biggest smartphone maker for the first time ever.
Samsung remains on the first spot with its 19% global market share. The Korean tech company saw annual growth of 15% in Q2 2021. Xiaomi makes history as it climbs to the second spot with its 17% market share in the second quarter along with 83% annual growth, which is the highest among the top five vendors. Canalys says that Xiaomi’s business is growing rapidly. Its shipments were up by 300% in Latin America, 150% in Africa, and 50% in Western Europe.

Xiaomi’s growing fortune is all because of its cheap and affordable smartphones targeted towards the mass market. Its selling price is around 40% cheaper than Samsung and around 75% cheaper than Apple. Analysts believe that Xiaomi’s major priority this year is to grow its sales of flagship smartphones.
Apple was on the third spot covering 14% of the global smartphone market in Q2 2021. This American tech company saw an annual growth of just 1%, which is the lowest among the top five vendors. The two Chinese companies, Oppo and Vivo rounded up in the top five with 10% of the global market share each. Both the companies had a decent yearly growth as well at 28% and 27% respectively.
