Lenovo’s new Legion Y90 gaming smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor

Lenovo has launched its new gaming smartphone called the Legion Y90. It is the industry's first smartphone to feature both UFS and SSD storage working in RAID 0 configuration.

Apart from that, the smartphone also features Samsung’s E4 AMOLED panel, six triggers, RGB backlighting, and much more. So, let’s go through the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the Lenovo Legion Y90 in Nepal.

Lenovo Legion Y90 Overview

Design and Display

Lenovo Legion Y90 features a 6.92-inch E4 AMOLED panel with an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, 720Hz touch sampling rate, and has a brightness of 1300 nits. According to Lenovo, this HDR10+ certified screen has a response time of just 3.4 ms.

In terms of design, the smartphone comes in a single Titanium Gray color option, and you’ll see the camera module on the center of the back panel. The camera island also features the Legion logo with RGB backlighting, which can cycle through 262K colors.

Performance

Lenovo Legion Y90 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. It can be paired with up to 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The device runs on ZUI 13 based on Android 12. Lenovo has also added the RAM expansion feature that adds 4GB of virtual RAM to the device.

The most interesting aspect of the smartphone comes in the storage type of its top-of-the-line 18GB RAM model. It is the only model to feature Lenovo’s new UFS+SSD storage chips working in RAID 0 configuration. With a total of 640GB of internal storage (512GB UFS + 128GB SSD), the top-end model massively improves the read and write speeds.

Gaming Features

The smartphone features four shoulder keys (L1, L2, and R1, R2) on the right frame and two pressure-sensitive zones on the display (L3 and R3). Similarly, the phone comes with dual Z-axis linear motors and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support for a more immersive gaming experience.

For cooling, the smartphone features a Frostbite M cooling system with an all-in-one active and passive cooling technology. It is made of graphene, liquid cooling, VC plate, and other components to keep thermals under control. Lenovo claims that the Legion Y90 has 68,849mm² of internal surface area for thermal management. The device also features dual fans with sprouting dual fins in the middle of the back panel. According to Lenovo, it will enhance the cooling process by 300%.

Camera

Lenovo Legion Y90 features a dual-camera setup, placed on the center of the back panel. There’s a 64-megapixel main camera and a 13MP ultrawide sensor with 120° FoV. Upfront is a 16-megapixel camera embedded in the bezel for selfies and video calls.

Battery and Others

Powering the device is a 5600mAh battery that supports 68-watt fast charging. Lenovo claims that the battery is enough for 8 hours of gaming and the fast charging can fuel the device to 100% in just 35 minutes.

Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and GPS. The device lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack but you get two USB Type-C ports (one on the bottom and one on the side).

Lenovo Legion Y90 Price and Availability

Lenovo Legion Y90 is already available for pre-order in China with sales starting on March 10. The device starts at CNY 4,299 for the base 12/256GB model and goes all the way up to CNY 5,299 for the model with 18GB RAM and 512GB UFS + 128GB SSD storage. If the smartphone launches in Nepal, we expect the price to start around Rs.90,000.
