One of the biggest social media platforms, Instagram, is expanding its Age Verification in additional countries including India and Brazil. The feature was previously available only in the US. Moreover, the company plans to expand this age verification procedure to the UK and EU before 2023 arrives.

Instagram Age Verification
Partnering with Yoti, a company that specializes in privacy-preserving ways to verify age, Instagram has announced Age Verification in India. The sole purpose of this procedure is to provide age-appropriate experiences for teenagers (13-17).
Moreover, the Age Verifications will default teenagers' accounts into private accounts, preventing unwanted contact with adults they don’t know. It also limits the options advertisers have to reach them with ads.
Instagram requires people to be at least 13 years old (or more in some countries) to sign up. Users under the age of 18 in India, if tries to edit their age to over 18, will now have to verify their age using various methods.
Ways to Verify Age on Instagram
Instagram has three methods of age verification—Video Selfie, Social Vouching, and ID Verification. Users can choose either one to verify their age.
ID Verification:
In this method, users will have to upload their Identity certifications—a driver’s license or ID card to verify their age. According to the company, the ID will be stored securely on their servers and deleted within 30 days.
Video Selfie:
Users can also choose to upload a video selfie to verify their age. The video is then shared with Yoti to estimate the age based on users' facial features. Moreover, Meta and Yoti delete the video after confirming the age.
Social Vouching:
This option of the Instagram Age Verification method allows users to ask three mutual followers to confirm their age. The person vouching must be at least 18 years old. However, the company is removing Social Vouching as an option to verify age to make some improvements.
Conclusion
Age Verification is a method that Instagram uses to provide age-appropriate content (mainly for teenagers). As for privacy concerns, Instagram encrypts your ID and stores it securely. For video verifications, Meta and Yoti both delete the video once the age is confirmed.
In addition, the information provided in each age verification option won’t be visible on the user's profile, their friends, or other people on Instagram.
