Introduction

After Nepal Telecom (NTC), Ncell launched the eSIM in Nepal on November 25, 2022. The transition to Necll eSIM is entirely free and easy, as existing Ncell users can simply send an SMS to upgrade.

In this post, we’ll talk about the process of upgrading to Ncell’s eSIM. We’ll also go through the eSIM-compatible devices that are currently available in Nepal. So, without any further ado, lets’ get started.

What is eSIM?

Embedded-SIM (eSIM) or Embedded Universal Circuit Card (eUICC) is a digital SIM embedded into the smartphone. It allows you to activate a cellular plan from your carrier without using the physical nano-SIM.

eSIM makes it easier to switch between multiple network operators and switch among them temporarily. Being embedded inside the phone, eSIM is less likely to get physical damage and loss. However, eSIM does make switching smartphones a long process.

How To Upgrade To Ncell’s eSIM in Nepal For Free?

The process of upgrading to Ncell’s eSIM is very simple. If you are an existing Ncell user, you can simply send a free SMS to 17125, typing your Citizenship number and Email ID that your SIM is registered under. However, if you are a non-Ncell user then you have to visit the nearest Ncell Centre and choose desired tariff plan on eSIM.

As we mentioned above, Ncell will not charge any amount if you are upgrading your existing Ncell SIM to eSIM.

Most of the flagship smartphones are compatible with e-SIM, but smartphone makers tend to alter some features of their smartphones based on market region. Currently, the eSIM-supported smartphones available in Nepal are:

Latest models of Samsung: Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Flip series, and Galaxy Z Fold series.
Google: Pixel 4 series, Pixel 5 series, Pixel 6 series.

Furthermore, you can also check the eSIM compatibility by dialing *#06# from your device. If your device supports eSIM, it will show the EID number (Embedded Identity Document).
