DOTM (Department of Transport and Management) has increased the age limit for obtaining a driver’s license in Nepal. In this new rule by the department, for a person to apple for a driver’s license, he/she must have completed the age of 18.

Gagan Bahadur Hamal, the director of DOTM said that the age limit for obtaining a driver’s license in the draft of the ‘Vehicles and Transport System Act-2076’ is now going to be increased to 18 years. Currently, the age limit for applying for a driver’s license is 16 years.

Various studies have found that more accidents on the roads these days mostly occurred because of young drivers. That is why it is intended to increase the license age limit for all types of vehicles, public as well as private.
