10 Best Selling Foldable Smartphones in 2021
Ever since the first foldable smartphone launched back in 2019, the shipments of such devices reached 9 million units for the first time in 2021. According to a report of Omidia, foldable smartphone shipments saw a 309% year-on-year growth in 2021. Eight million units out of the Nine were sold in the second half of the year, accounting for 89% of the total shipment.
Samsung dominates the foldable market as it accounted for more than 61% of the market share in 2021. Out of the top 11 foldable smartphones available in the global market, five of them were from the Korean tech giants. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 was the best-selling foldable smartphone in 2021. This flippable device accounted for 52% of the foldable market, reaching 4.6 million in shipments. Upgrades in both hardware and design, along with a $380 cheaper price tag than its predecessor, helped boost Galaxy Z Flip 3 sales.

After Flip 3, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 was the second-most shipped foldable smartphone in 2021. The device took 28% of shipments with a total of 2.5 million units. Samsung’s 3rd Gen foldable duo accounted for 7.1 million units.
Huawei was the second-largest OEM in the foldable smartphone market, shipping 0.9 million units accounting for 10% of the market in 2021. Huawei's foldable repertoire consists of smartphones like Mate X2 and P50 Pocket.
With Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor taking their first step in the foldable market and Samsung continuously improving in its foldable tech, the global foldable smartphone market is expected to grow significantly in 2022.
