MediaTek has announced its consolidated revenue of January 2022, which was NT$43.502 billion (about $1.55 billion). The Taiwanese chipmaker saw a year-on-year increase of 23.1%, but also a 5.8% decrease compared to December 2021. Despite a slow start compared to the previous quarter, MediaTek is optimistic about the quarter as a whole.

As per the reports of IT Home, MediaTek has predicted revenue around NT$131.2 billion (around $4.7 billion) to NT$141.5 billion (around $5.1 billion) for the first quarter of 2022. If the prediction comes true, the company will see an increase of around 31% year-on-year and around 10% compared to the last quarter.

According to Cai Lixing, CEO of MediaTek, the increase in revenue is driven by the increase in 5G penetration and the shipment of the flagship Dimensity 9000 SoC, which can also offset the impact of low seasonal demand for some consumer products.

MediaTek is expected to have a record-high 53.2% increase in annual revenue of around NT$493.4 billion (around $17.6 billion) in 2021. Shipping around 110 million units of chipsets in 2021, the company was also able to ship more chipsets in China compared to its competitor Qualcomm. The year 2021 was a year of massive growth for MediaTek, if we look at the numbers from 2020, the Taiwanese chipmaker only shipped 77.4 million units in the year.
