MediaTek Pentonic 2000 Specifications and Features

To begin with, MediaTek Pentonic 2000 SoC is the world’s first commercial TV chip manufactured using TSMC’s N7 (7nm-class) process, claimed to deliver “unparalleled performance and power-efficiency.” The SoC here supports 8K 120Hz displays and even features an integrated 8K 120Hz MEMC engine.

It is the first commercial 8K TV chip with Versatile Video Coding (VVC) H.266 media support, which offers improved compression efficiency for next-generation streaming and broadcast media. The Pentonic 2000 also supports the latest Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies to provide the best cinematic experiences.

According to MediaTek, the chipset can intelligently upscale content to the display’s native resolution, while also performing real-time image quality enhancements. This is possible because of its new APU, which supports the OEM's 8K AI-Super Resolution technology.

The  Pentonic 2000 SoC also features MediaTek’s Intelligent View technology enables multiple picture-in-picture (PiP) or picture-by-picture (PbP) screens, which allows consumers to have multiple apps open streaming from different sources, all at the same time.

Connectivity-wise, the chip supports the Wi-Fi 6E standard or even 5G cellular modems to provide the fastest wireless internet connectivity for 8K content streaming. The SoC also supports UFS 3.1 storage, which the company claims “ensure zero-lag experiences using the TV UI and any apps.”

The first Pentonic 2000-powered next-gen flagship 8K TVs are expected to arrive in 2022.
