Baojun Yep Electric SUV unveiled in China- Here's what we know so far

Baojun, a sub-brand of the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture, has unveiled its upcoming fully electric mini EV named 悦也 (YueYe) in Chinese, and it will be called Yep in English. It is categorized as an "Urban Fun Trendy SUV". This tiny electric SUV is likely to make its official debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show and is expected to hit the Chinese road by May this year.

Overview

Similar to many newly introduced rugged vehicles, the Yep is specifically targeted toward urban-dwelling young adults who enjoy weekend camping trips. Its boxy profile, rugged body, off-road bumpers, bulged wheel arches, black A-pillar wheels, black roof rails, and sporty alloy wheels with colored black calipers, is sure to attract this demographic.

Speaking of the dimensions, the new ultra-compact electric SUV is 3381 mm long, 1685 mm wide, and 1721 mm tall. It has a 2110 mm long wheelbase and its curb weight measures 1006 Kg. The width and height of the car are roughly similar to one of the smallest SUVs on sale, Suzuki Jimmy. However, it is comparatively longer than Jimmy.

As per the Baojun, the Yep comes with a seating capacity for up to 4 people. However, considering the vehicle’s size, the rear seats will probably be useful for kids or pets only and is unlikely to accommodate two adults.

More on, the Baojan Yep will get a single electric motor and Rear-wheel drive as of now. The dual-motor and four-wheel drive version is reportedly on the way too, but this has not been confirmed yet.

The Permanent Magnet Synchronous Drive Motor installed in the EV churns out a 50 kW of peak power alongside 140 Nm of maximum torque. This motor together with Lithium-ion Phosphate Battery claims an electric range of 303 Km on a full charge. Moreover, the EV has a top speed of 100 Km/h.

Price and Launch date

The company hasn’t yet provided any detail regarding the price and official launch date of the highly anticipated car. It is expected to make its official debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show happening in April before launching in China in May this year.
