Apple captured 7 out of the 10 spots in 2021. Even all the top 5 smartphones were iPhones. Apple iPhone 12 was the best-selling smartphone model in 2021 with a 2.9% global share. It was then followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 11. The pending demand for 5G upgrades by the loyal iOS user base is said to be the main reason behind the success of the iPhone 12 series. The research firm also points out that the iPhone 13 was the best-selling model in Q4 2021, followed by the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro.

Apart from the top 5, two other Apple smartphones- iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone 13 Pro Max also made it to the list in 8th and 9th place, respectively.

Korean tech giant, Samsung, saw its entry-level Galaxy A12 on the sixth spot in 2021. The smartphone received strong demand from almost all regions and countries throughout the year. Counterpoint believes that its successor, the Galaxy A13 5G, will continue the momentum in 2022.

The Chinese brand Xiaomi also saw its budget smartphones on the top 10 list in 2021. Xiaomi’s Redmi 9A and Redmi 9 were on the 7th and 10th spot and contributed 22% to the brand’s total sales in the year. Xiaomi pushed its budget models to price-conscious regions like China, India, and Asia-Pacific, where the company received great success.
