After the massive success of the Snapdragon 855 chipset released around early 2019, Qualcomm has now recently unveiled its new successor, the Snapdragon 865. Along with it, the firm has also released two new chipsets, the Snapdragon 765, the Snapdragon 765G.
Well, with the release of the new Snapdragon 865, we can undoubtedly claim that the chipset has come up with new updated features and improvements. And we can also be assured that the upcoming flagship devices by top brands like Samsung, Google, and OnePlus will definitely come packed with this new chipset.
What’s inside the new Snapdragon 865 chipset?
The new flagship chipset will be manufactured on a 7nm processor alike the Snapdragon 855. More on, the chipset also features additional capabilities and an increase in performance compared to its predecessor.

The new dedicated Kyro 585 CPU on the Snapdragon 865 offers a 25% faster performance than the SD 855. Similarly, in terms of graphics too, the processing speed is 25% faster with 35% power savings over the Adreno 640.

Key Updates
5G Technology
The 5G Technology integrated into the new flagship chipset will save more power. Qualcomm decided to make a strategic bet three years ago to keep the 5G modem separate, explained Cisco Cheng, a managing director at Qualcomm. “To pack the amount of gaming, camera, and AI features into the SOC while maintaining all of the awesome features, we have to keep the two separate,” he said.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the key updates of the new Snapdragon 865. The other AI assistants such as Google Voice Assistant will now have an improved performance on the new chip. According to the vice-president of Qualcomm’s AI strategy, Real-time music identification will also be supported in the new Snapdragon 865.
Other improved features such as noise cancellation are applied to improve voice recognition in real-time. More on, the new Hexagon 698 in the Snapdragon 865 delivers more than 16 trillion operations per second, which is twice more than its predecessor while consumes 35% less power.
Camera Improvements
As most of the customers prefer to buy new smartphones for a good camera. Well, the new flagship Qualcomm chipset might contribute to it. The new Spectra ISP used in the Snapdragon 865 is designed to run more efficiently than its predecessor. The new sensor can process four pixels per clock cycle while the previous sensors could only go up to one. Therefore, it’s no doubt the upcoming Snapdragon 865 powered smartphones will hold a better camera.
According to Qualcomm, the Spectra Core used in 865 chip will be able to capture still images more effectively while recording a video. Also, the upcoming flagship powered camera smartphones will also have an option of capturing 8K/30fps video (without HDR) which is definitely going to be a boom!
The Snapdragon 865 has planned to be the first on the market to capture in Dolby Vision.
Gaming
The upcoming flagship owners will also now be able to experience a top-notch gaming experience as the new Snapdragon 865 comes with enhanced gaming capabilities. The gaming improvements added in the new chipset can boost the Adreno 650 GPU performance by 20%.
