Huawei announces Nova 9 series with Snapdragon 778 and 120Hz curved OLED display

Huawei has announced the Nova 9 series smartphone - Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro in China. The two Nova series smartphones bring a Snapdragon 778 SoC, a 120Hz curved OLED display, and a 50-megapixel RYYB primary camera. Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro Overview

Huawei Nova 9 features a 6.57 inches display, while the Pro model has a 6.72-inch panel. Both smartphones have a curved OLED display with support for P3 wide gamut, HDR10, 120Hz refresh rate, and 300Hz touch sampling rate. The non-pro model has a center punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, while the Pro model comes with a pill-shaped notch on the top left corner of the display.

Both Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro are equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset. They both give the option for 8GB RAM, up to 256GB of onboard storage, and operate on HarmonyOS 2.0n out of the box. The Pro model adds an extra VC+ graphene cooling system for longer gaming sessions.

In terms of optics, both the Nova series smartphones feature the same quad-camera setup at the back. The setup consists of a 50-megapixel RYYB primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide, and two 2-megapixel macro and depth sensors. Upfront, the Nova 9 has a single 32-megapixel camera, but the Pro model gets two 32-megapixel sensors inside its pill-shaped notch.

Powering the vanilla Nova 9 is a 4300mAh battery with support for 66-watt fast charging. Comparatively, the Pro model gets a smaller 4000mAh battery but is backed by a 100-watt fast charging speed. Connectivity options on both the Nova 9 series smartphones include WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Furthermore, both phones use an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for biometrics.

The base 8/128GB variant of the Nova 9 costs CNY 2,699(around Rs.50,000), while the same variant of the Nova 9 Pro is priced at CNY 3,499(around Rs.64,000). Both phones are currently available for pre-orders in China, with sales starting from September 29.
