Oppo overtakes Huawei
Seems like the Huawei trade dispute with the US has affected Huawei’s hold on the smartphone market of China. Huawei the company which dominated the Chinese smartphone market for a long time now has come behind Oppo who now has become the best-selling smartphone brand in the Chinese market. According to the reports by Counterpoint Research in January Oppo managed to capture 21% of the world’s largest smartphone market. Oppo saw a growth of 33% month-on-month and 26% year-on-year during the month.

Counterpoint credits the successful launch of the new Oppo Reno 5 series to be the catalyst for the recent growth seen in Oppo. Also, the downfall of Huawei is because of the shortage of components caused by US sanctions which have made the company be more focused on only the premium smartphone market. Huawei now has a 20% market of China along with Vivo and they are followed by Apple and Xiaomi on 16%.

Oppo will look to take the advantage even further as they prepare to launch their new Find X series later this week. These figures are just for one month but the market share of Huawei is expected to decline throughout 2021.
