Brazilian government fined Apple $2 million for selling iPhone 12 without a charger

Not having a charger is really beneficial for the environment??

Apple, who removed the charger from their box on their latest iPhone 12 series won’t be happy about this news coming out of Brazil. According to the reports from MacRumors and other sources, tech giant Apple is fined about $2 million US dollars by the Procon-SP a consumer protection agency from Brazil for not selling a charger with the iPhone 12. According to the agency, Apple not including a charger with its iPhone is a violation of the country’s Consumer Defense Code.

Back in December is when Apple was informed about the alleged violation by the Brazilian agency. Apple responded with the environmental issues, decrease in the CO2 emissions, and pointing that many customers already own a charger to the concerns of the agency. But it seems the Brazilian agency was not thrilled with the response of Apple by the looks of it. The executive director of Procon-SP, Fernando Capez has warned Apple that they need to respect and understand Brazilian consumer law

The agency also claims that Apple declined to repair the iPhones which suffered water damage while iPhone 12 is supposed to be water-resistant even if submerged up to 6 meters for 30 minutes. Adding on the list of claims is that Apple deliberately slows down the older iPhones with its iOS updates to force consumers to buy new models.

Although this doesn’t seem a lot of amount for Apple, still they will get a chance to appeal to the fine imposed by Procon-SP.
