Nepal's SUV buyers just got a serious new option, and it came with a lot of promises.
Kia Nepal, the official distributor of Kia vehicles in the country operating under Continental Trading Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., formally launched the All New Kia K3 Seltos at a ceremony held at Silver Oak, Gairidhara, Kathmandu. The third-generation Seltos, built on Kia's new K3 platform, arrives with a larger and stronger body structure than its predecessor, claiming a more spacious cabin, improved ride comfort, and a more refined driving experience. Whether the car lives up to those claims on Nepali roads, complete with Kathmandu potholes and mountain passes, is a different question. But on paper at least, this is the most feature-loaded Seltos ever offered in the country.
Design
The new Seltos adopts a more aggressive exterior design inspired by the globally available Kia Telluride, featuring the brand's "Tiger Face" grille with LED headlights and multiple LED daytime running lamps. Additional DRL strips flank both sides of the grille and double as turn indicators. It's a look built to be noticed, and that's not accidental. Kia has clearly moved away from the softer, more conservative design language of earlier generations.
The profile gets flush-type door handles for a cleaner modern look, along with gloss-black wheel arches, roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Around the back, Star Map LED connected tail lamps illuminate the rear with a futuristic glow, adding clarity and style to the SUV's silhouette.
The interior is where the generational leap really shows. The cabin is dominated by the Trinity Panoramic Display, a segment-first setup that integrates dual 12.3-inch screens with a 5-inch climate control panel. Top variants come with a 30-inch trinity panoramic display panel, alongside a leatherette-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel with a flat top and flat bottom. The cabin also features 64-color ambient mood lighting across door trims and the full crash pad, along with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and rear AC vents.
A low, horizontal dashboard enhances forward visibility and creates a sense of openness, while a column-type Shift-by-Wire system frees up the center console and contributes to a more open cabin environment. Ten-way powered front ventilated seats offer lumbar support, while the boot offers an extendable capacity of 447 liters, with 60:40 split-folding rear seats and a wireless smartphone charger.
Twelve color options are on offer, including four new shades: Ivory Silver Gloss, Morning Haze, Magma Red, and Frost Blue.
Performance
The structural story here starts with the K3 platform. The all-new Seltos is built on Kia's latest K3 platform, delivering measurably improved body rigidity through greater use of ultra-high-strength and hot-stamped steel, up to 60 percent for Korea-built variants, with enhanced chassis tuning, optimized suspension geometry, and a reinforced structure for a more composed driving feel.
The K3 platform also underpins the Kia Niro and K4, as well as Hyundai's Kona and Elantra. That shared architecture gives Kia a cost and engineering advantage, components are proven at scale, and the structural benefits are real.
For powertrain options, the picture varies by market. In Nepal, the variants align closely with the India-spec car. The India-market Seltos offers three powertrain options: a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol producing 113 bhp and 144 Nm paired with a 6-speed manual or IVT, a 1.5-liter turbo petrol making 158 bhp and 253 Nm paired with a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT, and a 1.5-liter turbo diesel producing 113 bhp and 250 Nm with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Globally, engine choices include a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter unit with 147 hp and a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine producing either 178 hp or 190 hp depending on the market, with transmission options spanning a six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, or an eight-speed automatic. A hybrid variant also joins the Seltos lineup in 2026, meeting the growing global demand for lower-emission mobility without compromising the SUV's character. Nepal isn't getting that hybrid yet, but the question of when it arrives could define the next chapter for the nameplate here.
Boot capacity reaches a class-leading 536 liters (VDA) globally, with flexible storage configurations including a foldable dual-level cargo board.
Safety Features
The safety credentials on this car are genuinely impressive, not just as marketing language. The all-new Kia Seltos has achieved a five-star BNCAP rating with a combined score of 76.70, the highest ever recorded by an internal combustion engine vehicle under the program. It earned 31.70 points for adult occupant protection, the highest among all ICE vehicles tested under BNCAP, and 45.00 points for child occupant protection, one of the highest scores in either category.
To put that in context: the previous Seltos had a 3-star adult safety rating from Global NCAP. The jump is significant.
The Seltos K3 platform features reinforced hot-stamped components and high-strength steel specifically designed to manage crash energy and maintain structural integrity during impact. Standard across all variants are six airbags, driver, front passenger, two curtain, and two side , alongside ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring, lane departure warning, hill assist, hill descent control, front and rear parking camera, and blind spot detection.
Higher variants add Level 2 ADAS with 21 autonomous safety features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, as well as a 360-degree camera and rear view camera with guidelines.
Features and Technology
The Kia Seltos K3 is equipped with ADAS Level 2 alongside 21 autonomous safety features designed to anticipate and prevent hazards, complemented by the command-centric Trinity Panoramic Display that blends seamless technology for a smart driving experience.
The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems suite introduces Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2, operating across an expanded speed range of 10 to 85 km/h. The infotainment ecosystem also supports digital personalization through the Kia Connect Store. Premium Harman Kardon and Bose audio systems deliver immersive, high-fidelity sound optimized for the cabin's acoustic architecture.
The digital cluster includes a Blind View Monitor for safer navigation, and the cabin features a dual-tone leatherette steering wheel, soft-touch materials, and build quality that feels significantly improved over the outgoing model.
Dimensions and Space
The K3 Seltos has grown noticeably. The new Seltos measures 4,460 mm in length, 95 mm longer than before , 1,830 mm wide, and rides on a 2,690 mm wheelbase, which is 80 mm bigger than the previous generation. That translates directly into rear seat legroom that was previously one of the segment's consistent complaints.
Tyre size options span from 205/65 R16 up to 215/55 R18, with a 47-liter fuel tank for naturally aspirated variants and 50 liters for turbo petrol variants.
Price in Nepal and Variants
The All New Kia K3 Seltos is available in Nepal in four variants through Kia Nepal's official dealer network, with the starting price set at Rs. 68,90,000 and the top variant priced at Rs. 95,90,000. The full price breakdown:
HTK (O): Rs. 68,90,000
HTK (O) IVT: Rs. 75,90,000
HTX (A) IVT: Rs. 85,90,000
X-Line (A) DCT: Rs. 95,90,000
Kia Nepal plans to sell the new K3 Seltos alongside the previous generation model, giving customers the flexibility to choose based on budget and feature preferences. That dual-generation strategy is smart, it keeps the entry price accessible while opening the door to premium buyers who want everything the K3 platform delivers.
What This Means for Nepal's SUV Market
At Rs. 68.9 lakh for the base, the All New Seltos isn't cheap, but it's not overpriced for what it brings. The BNCAP five-star score alone sets it apart from much of the competition in this price band. Pair that with a platform shared with globally recognized vehicles, Level 2 ADAS as standard, a cabin that finally feels genuinely premium, and a 5-star safety record that broke national testing benchmarks, and the value case becomes hard to argue against.
The real question is how this third-generation Seltos ages in the Nepali context , mountainous terrain, inconsistent road surfaces, and fuel quality variations that sometimes stress modern turbocharged engines. The SUV has already crossed 10,000 monthly sales in India since its launch, which suggests the market is voting with its wallet. Nepal's numbers will likely follow.
Whether Kia eventually brings the hybrid variant to Kathmandu will say a lot about where it thinks the Nepali buyer is headed.
