The UTS is currently not selling Toyota’s popular Hyryder SUV in the Nepali market. However, the firm is soon planning on launching the Toyota Hyryder here in Nepal.

Toyota Hyryder Overview

Toyota Hyryder Design

The design of the new Hyryder mimics the company’s previously sold SUVs in the international market. The SUV features fully-LED headlamps and taillights alongside a muscular bumper resting at the front.

The Toyota Hyryder has a stylish exterior design with a bold grille, sweptback headlamps, and stylish alloy wheels. The SUV has a muscular stance and an aggressive front fascia.

The side profile features a floating roof design and blacked out pillars for a sporty look. At the rear, the Hyryder gets wrap-around LED tail lamps, a sculpted tailgate, and dual tone bumper. The overall design is youthful and premium.

The interior of the new Hyryder looks very much like that of the Maruti Brezza and a Baleno as well.

The Hyryder's interior features a dual-tone black and beige theme with silver accents. The dashboard is neat and well-laid out, with a touchscreen infotainment system taking center stage. The 7-inch infotainment system in the machine supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

The steering wheel and seats get leatherette upholstery. In terms of seating, the Hyryder can seat up to five passengers comfortably with adequate headroom and legroom for all passengers. The 60:40 split rear seats allow for flexible storage options.

The rear seat experience in the Hyryder is uneven. Rear seat passengers sit at a higher, more elevated level than the front seat, almost like in a theater. While there is adequate legroom and ample space to slide your feet under the front seat, and the backrest reclines for extra comfort, the overall seating position in the rear has some pros and cons.

The heightened, tiered layout provides an airy feel but may not suit everyone's preferences. The rear seat experience in the Hyryder seems mixed, with a combination of convenient and cramped elements.

Premium features such as a fully-digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, modern connectivity options, panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, 360-degree camera, voice-assist feature, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and more will also be included in the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hybrid.

Toyota Hyryder Power and Performance

Coming on to the engine, the first compact Hybrid SUV in India will emboss a strong hybrid technology in the car. The Hyryder will feature Toyota’s 4th generation e-drive hybrid tech.

The SUV is powered by a 1.5L TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine churning out a peak power of 92bhp alongside a peak torque of 122Nm. In addition, the electric motor mated to it delivers a power of 79bhp and 141Nm of peak torque.

On the battery side, Toyota packs the sub-compact SUV with a 177.6V lithium-ion unit that offers only a range of 25 km/hr.

In addition, Toyota is also offering another engine option,i.e. the Neo Drive Engine. This is the same engine used in Maruti Suzuki’s popular cars XL6, Ertiga, and Brezza. The unit is a 1.5L K15C petrol unit that churns out a max power of 103bhp alongside 137 Nm of peak torque.

For gear transmission, Toyota offers two options in the SUV- a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gear.

The petrol engine provides good low-end torque for easy drivability in city traffic. The mild hybrid system provides additional torque assist that delivers a small boost in acceleration. The diesel engine offers high fuel efficiency for long distance driving.

Toyota Hyryder Suspension and Braking

The Hyryder gets a McPherson strut suspension up front and a torsion beam setup at the rear which provides a good balance of handling and ride comfort. The braking performance is delivered by disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. ABS, EBD, and brake assist are standard across variants to ensure safe braking on slippery roads.

Toyota Hyryder Safety Features

Safety features in the Hyryder are also well-taken care of. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder offers six airbags, hill-hold assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system, seatbelts for all rear passengers, all-disc brakes, and so on.

Moreover, the Rear View Camera provides a wider rear field of view on the display screen to assist safe reversing and parking. Meanwhile, the Front and Rear Parking Sensors used in the SUV detect nearby obstacles when maneuvering at low speeds or in tight spaces. Helps avoid bumps and scrapes.

In addition, Toyota is also offering an All-Wheel-Drive option in the new Hyryder.
